An aluminum electrolytic capacitor consists of a pair of aluminum foils, one of them being an anode and another one being the sealed electrolyte-soaked paper with a cathode. This dielectric oxide layer is several times thicker than the layers normally formed on common aluminum foil when exposed to air. This is because the electrolyte contains various salts and acids which are highly reactive when they\'re exposed to electric current. This dielectric oxide formed from the electrolyte has the effect of causing a voltage drop between the anode and the cathode. This voltage drop creates an electric field in the capacitor, and the energy between the electric field is stored.At the same time, the conduction between the opposite electrodes of the capacitor is made possible due to the electrolytic salt being moveable between the two electrodes.
