MAX13054ESA-T Application Field and Working Principle

MAX13054ESA-T is a Type-C, ESD-protected, High-Speed, Bidirectional, Multiprotocol port controller. It provides support for both USB 2.0, USB 3.0 Type-C, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt 3 protocol standards. This integrated circuit is especially useful in applications where Type-C connectivity is required and port level multiplexing is preferred. It provides bidirectional data transport between the upstream and downstream ports and can handle multiple protocol standards simultaneously.

The MAX13054ESA-T is designed to support ultrabooks, tablets, phones, wearable technology, and mobile phones in peripherals and sensors. It integrates Type-C port handling logic, ESD protection, an analog front-end (AFE), power delivery (PD), and protocol translation and level-shifting between various USB ports. This device includes four IEEE 802.3af-compliant ports and four additional USB 3.0 ports, which provide a total of 8 high-speed I/O channels for Type-C, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and Thunderbolt 3 connections. It is compliant with USB-C Authentication protocols such as USB Power Delivery and DisplayPort Alternate Mode.

The MAX13054ESA-T consists of an ESD-protected port controller, with integrated analog and digital components. The port controller provides 6 channels (power and data) to the module’s upstream and downstream connections. These ports include multiple switch nodes, allowing for concurrent data and power applications. Finally, the device also houses integrated adaptive dynamic reloading logic for fast switching time for USB data transfer.
