MAX15027ATB/V+T

MAX15027ATB/V+T is a highly integrated linear regulator for low-voltage power supplies. It provides up to 9A peak output current and is optimized for supplying 5V and 3.3V rails in operation within a 0V to 7V input voltage range. The device incorporates high efficiency integrated MOSFET, switching feedback loop and ultrafast current limit protection. The IC also features over-temperature, over-voltage and under-voltage protection as well as logic output for quick shutdown and package shutdown indication.

The MAX15027ATB/V+T is based on a current-mode architecture, providing a simple and effective voltage regulation solution. It operates in either PFM (pulse frequency modulation) or PWM (pulse width modulation) mode, depending on load current. The high efficiency MOSFETs are integrated on the die, allowing a silicon solution with minimum external components. The maximum output current can be adjusted through an external programming resistor, allowing the system to run safely even in worst-case load conditions. The IC can also be used as a single output linear regulator, and it features selectable output voltage options.

The device also features a fast start-up and excellent transient response. The power-good output (PGOOD) signal latches when the output voltage is within 0.8% accuracy of the target voltage. The PGOOD signal can be used to provide system monitoring for proper power supply operation. The MAX15027ATB/V+T also offers adjustable soft-start to limit inrush currents, as well as fold-back current limiting for an overload condition such as an inductor short circuit.

This linear regulator is available in a 6-pin, 3mm x3mm MLF SSOP package and is ideally suited for applications such as digital set-top boxes, cable and xDSL modems, and digital TV systems. It can also be used in systems requiring 42V to 4.5V conversion. The integrated MOSFETs, current sensing and compensation circuitry, allow a very high efficiency solution when compared to a stand-alone linear regulator.
