The MAX1487EPA+ is an automotive-grade transceiver operating from a single 3 V supply. It is designed for both balanced and unbalanced RS-485 and ISO 1042 applications, as well as isolated high-speed differential signaling. With an industry-leading 5 kV ESD and 400 mV common-mode immunity, the device ensures reliable automotive system performance.

The MAX1487EPA+ is targeted for 2-wire half duplex data transmission systems up to 10 Mbps data rates.It includes internal protection and filtering for using in automotive applications where networks may experience load dump and ESD conditions. Working Principle

It is optimized for data rates up to 10 Mbps, rejecting transients to 400 mV common-mode while maintaining compliance with the RS-485 and ISO 1042 specifications. It is protected with up to 15 kV ESD immunity and features a patented automatic biasing and power-up circuit which provides an optimal performance across the whole operating voltage range.

The MAX1487EPA+ allows the opto-isolated input line to be connected directly to the ground, eliminating the need for a separate ground plane or earth line. The device provides four logic inputs to control the operation of the transceiver: disabled, request-to-send (RTS), data-terminal-ready (DTR), and local-device-allowed-to-receive (LDAR). The device includes additional features such as a frame-error-inhibit (FEI) signal, which prevents the device from sending out a frame error signal, and a warning signal (WRN) which informs the user if the device is experiencing an external overload or if the transmit data is lost.

The MAX1487EPA+ also provides protection that prevents system malfunction under certain conditions such as power-fail and noise. Under these conditions, the device constantly monitors operating statuses and makes sure that the receive and transmit signals are kept in optimal signal levels.
