The MAX14920ECB+ is a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) specifically designed for battery management. It integrates analog and digital functions, making it ideal for charging, balancing, and protecting batteries in many different applications such as laptop PCs, tablets, and cellular phones. The MAX14920ECB+ utilizes a low-two-way linear impedance topology and also offers support for both SEPIC and boost applications, offering a single-chip solution and saving system PCB space. An on-chip 8-bit DAC provides external superior accuracy of current and voltage regulation, which can be dynamically adjusted by an I2C interface.

The MAX14920ECB+ can be easily programmed by an I2C interface, making it suitable for a variety of applications, such as automotive, telecommunication, and portable devices. The MAX14920ECB+ is designed to manage up to four Li-Ion/Li-Polymer cells with a separate charge input (IN) and discharge output (OUT) for each cell. The voltage-sense and current-sense inputs monitor the voltage and current of each individual cell. This device also features internal FETs to regulate the charge and discharge functions of each cell separately. The FETs are protected against short circuit and thermal overload, eliminating the need for external fuses. The internal loop compensation allows for reduced external components, allowing for a minimalistic design for higher efficiency.

The device uses a standard I2C interface with a selectable readback address, allowing for a simple, low-power integrated solution for battery-management applications.
