MAX16814BEUP+T, a PMIC - LED driver, enables high-efficiency, high-current drive capability for general purpose LED lighting applications that require a constant current source. With its fully integrated, shallow form factor, the MAX16814BEUP+T is the optimum choice for space-constrained designs.

The basic working principle of the MAX16814BEUP+T is to provide a constant-current (CC) source to drive the LED array while minimizing power dissipation and increasing efficiency. This is implemented through its integrated buck and boost architecture, which ensures a constant LED current regardless of LED forward voltage variations due to manufacturing and temperature.

The MAX16814BEUP+T features a wide input voltage range of 4.0V to 60V, and offers three selectable operating modes: CC, normal and flicker-free dimming. It provides up to 1A of CC current while maintaining high power efficiency, and the boost stage allows load disconnection in CC mode without needing a decoupling capacitor. The CC mode further offers four modes of CC operation, namely, true charge control, textured charge control, CC mode using an external resistor, and CC with symmetrical current.

The device also features an integrated analog dimming control that allows flicker-free dimming from 0.1% to100% with no additional external components. This dimming control is driven by the input voltage and has automatic on-the-fly dimming for various input voltages. Furthermore, the temperature compensation mechanism ensures that the LED current does not drift with temperature.
