MAX16838AUP+ is an LED driver developed by Maxim Integrated. It is used to drive multiple LED strings at up to 30V with constant-current accuracy. It accepts a wide input voltage range while drawing very low quiescent current. The device includes a ten-bit PWM input, enabling it to dim LED strings without affecting the angle of the dimming curve. TheMAX16838AUP+ can be used in a variety of applications such as automotive lighting, architectural lighting, LED billboards, backlighting, LED signage, and LED console and house lighting.

The MAX16838AUP+ features a buck topology with a programmable over-voltage protection (OVP) that protects the LED strings against open and short circuit conditions. The device supports up to 6 regulated current sinks and 3 regulated current sources. The device also integrates a programmable temperature monitor and automatically adjusts the output current to maintain constant current accuracy and extended LED string life. It also features a two-level active quiescent current distribution from the power supply. This helps to reduce the power supply noise.

The MAX16838AUP+ uses a proprietary boost converter design with a novel current-feedback circuit to provide accurate and reliable current regulation. The device operates on a single synchronous buck architecture with a selectable variety of current ranges which are externally adjustable. This allows for easy adaptation between different types of LED strings without compromising output accuracy.
