MAX1687ESA DC DC Switching Regulators Application Field and Working Principle

The MAX1687ESA DC-DC switching regulator is widely used in various electronic systems, ranging from portable devices to computer peripherals and home appliances. This type of control is ideal for a high efficiency, low component count, synchronous rectification system.As shown in the block diagram below, an external sense resistor R L senses the output current, and an external capacitor C T determines the current threshold level. The current-mode PWM comparator compares the output voltage to the reference voltage and turns on the external MOSFETs when the differential voltage is outside a specific range.The external PWM clock sets the switching frequency of the MOSFETs and the output voltage ripple. When the external clock frequency is low, the two MOSFETs switch on and off in a staggered manner, allowing the inductor current to flow through both MOSFETs. This allows the MAX1687ESA to achieve high efficiency levels, consistently above 81%.
