The MAX17205G+T is an advanced battery fuel gauge system which combines integrated fuel gauge plus microprocessor-based gauging technology. This system provides a fully integrated solution in a 3.2mm x 3.2mm area. The MAX17205G+T is used in applications involving battery management such as smart-phone battery packs, wearable devices, tablets, notebook PCs, power-tool batteries and battery powered healthcare products.

The MAX17205G+T provides a high degree of accuracy in state-of-charge (SoC) and state-of-capacity (SoC) determination. It supports multiple battery chemistries such as Li-Ion/Lithium-Polymer/Nickel Metal-Hydride/Lead Acid. MAX17205G+T includes an ADC, digital power supplies and microcontroller. It provides automatic cell balancing and temperature compensation which enhances data accuracy. It also includes input-output pins and communication interface.

The MAX17205G+T works with I2C digital serial protocol. This protocol enables battery status to be monitored in real-time and enable control over battery charging/discharging operations. The I2C communication is used to enable coordination of charging/discharging rate to maintain safe charge level and temperature while protecting the battery against overcharge, overdischarge and over-temperature conditions.

The MAX17205G+T also provides currently sensing and voltage measurement features. This system support both open-drain and push-pull mode configurations. It provides both reverse-current protection and short-circuit protection. The MAX17205G+T uses current-based Coulomb counting algorithms to sense/estimate battery charge and monitor/discharge rate. It also uses analog-to-digital and digital signal processing algorithms to measure the battery voltage.

The MAX17205G+T also provides two operating modes. The sleep mode allows the device to automatically enter a low power consuming state during periods of inactivity. The monitoring mode enables the device to continuously measure and monitor the battery\'s voltage and current. This allows the device to notify the user when the battery is running low, when it needs to be charged and when there is too much current draw. It also provides accurate estimates on how much time is remaining before the battery needs to be recharged.

The MAX17205G+T includes an integrated safety timer with an alarm. The safety timer prevents the battery from being overcharged by automatically shutting off the charging circuit when the time limit is exceeded.The MAX17205G+T also senses the temperature of the battery and will adjust the charging rate accordingly for optimal battery life. The integrated circuit also provides a balance indication of the battery\'s state of charge, alerting the user when it is time to recharge.
