The MAX17504SATP+T is a synchronous step-down DC-DC converter for ultra-low-power applications. This power supply is built with a DC-DC converter that uses pulse-width modulation to generate a regulated output voltage from a wide input voltage range from 2.2V to 18V. This low-noise power supply is specially designed to deliver very low quiescent current of only 14µA as well as high peak efficiency of 95%. The MAX17504SATP+T also feature a high switching frequency of 1MHz, which allows the device to deliver power to the load with high efficiency, low noise and a small form factor.

The MAX17504SATP+T uses a Fixed Frequency Current-mode PWM (FFCM). This modulation scheme uses a constant switching frequency and adjusts its duty cycle to regulate the output voltage. The host microcontroller is connected to the MAX17504SATP+T through the external control pins. By changing the duty cycle of the gate driver, the host microcontroller can decrease or increase the amount of power delivered to the load, thus regulating the output voltage. In addition, the MAX17504SATP+T provides an integrated soft start feature that helps reduce startup current as well as preventing the output voltage from surging at startup.

The MAX17504SATP+T also provides a wide range of protection features like Output Over-Voltage (OVP), Negative Output Voltage (NVP), over-temperature (OTP) and Under-Voltage-Latch-Off (UVLO). The Output Over-Voltage is set to 4.2V and this signal is generated when the output voltage greater than the set OVP threshold. The Under-Voltage-Latch-Off is set to 1.18V and this signal is generated when the output voltage drops below the UVLO threshold. In addition, the MAX17504SATP+T contains Internal Soft-Start and Over-Current Protection (OCP) that help protect the device against current overloads. The MAX17504SATP+T also provides thermal shutdown protection which shuts down the device when the temperature exceeds the set thermal shutdown threshold.
