Introduction

MAX17509ATJ+ is a compact and high performance DC/DC switching regulator designed to deliver precision, low-noise power in a wide range of applications, such as in microprocessor or logic core supply applications. It integrates a high-efficient DC/DC switching regulator, a synchronous rectifier and thermal protection circuitry into one 8-pin package.

Application Field

The MAX17509ATJ+ is designed to power a variety of embedded processors and memory applications in the Industrial and Communication markets, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and ZigBee wireless systems, DC/DC converters for automotive, networking devices and embedded control systems, as well as for voltage monitoring and sequencing. The MAX17509ATJ+ combines ultra-low quiescent current of 200µA and high efficiency (up to 95%) with a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. This product is available with a full suite of protection features, including over-voltage protection, over-current protection, and over-temperature protection.

Working Principle

The MAX17509ATJ+ DC/DC switching regulator operates with pulse-width modulation (PWM) to control the output voltage. In PWM mode, the DC/DC switching regulator works by charging an internal capacitor to create a voltage above the output voltage, then controlling its conduction to ground when the output voltage reaches the target level. This provides a high degree of regulation accuracy, and the output can be regulated over a large input voltage range, usually from 2.5V to 16V. The output voltage is set through a simple voltage divider and can be adjusted as required at any time.
