The open loop switching frequency, between 300kHz and 4MHz, is used to reduce the size and cost of the inductor required to generate the output voltage. The resulting output voltage is then compare with the reference voltage and sent to an error amplifier to determine the gate drive signal for the power transistors. If the output voltage increases or falls outside of predetermined limits, the system stops and the output is shut off.
