MAX17632BATE+ Application Field and Working Principle
MAX17632BATE+ is a dc-dc switching regulator that belongs to the family of PMIC – Voltage Regulators – DC DC Switching Regulators. It is an integrated power management circuit designed to enable a very efficient and simple method of converting and controlling a wide range of input voltages. It has a wide range of features including adjustable output voltage and current limit, soft start control, programmable input voltage, soft start, peak current detection and adjustable voltage drop.MAX17632BATE+ provides a current-mode buck, boost and buck-boost converter solution for a broad range of loads and input voltages. Though a single chip, it provides all the necessary functions for efficient power management in a variety of applications. The controlled switching frequency is adjustable up to 4MHz. The low profile of the MAX17632BATE+ makes it suitable for applications with tight space constraints. The chip is designed to use few external components and offers adjustable output voltage ranging from 5 to 40Vdc.MAX17632BATE+ applications include Data Storage, LED Lighting, Wireless Communications, Industrial Controls, Automotive, Medical and many other areas. It can be easily used to provide highly regulated output voltage for loads consuming currents up to 10A.When it comes to its working principle, the MAX17632BATE+ takes a DC input voltage, which could be from 5-40V, and then regulates it through a series of transistors. The open loop switching frequency, between 300kHz and 4MHz, is used to reduce the size and cost of the inductor required to generate the output voltage. The resulting output voltage is then compare with the reference voltage and sent to an error amplifier to determine the gate drive signal for the power transistors. If the output voltage increases or falls outside of predetermined limits, the system stops and the output is shut off.
The MAX17632BATE+ also has a number of safety and reliability features, such as programmable over-current protection, foldback current limit, and over-temperature protection. Additionally, it has an integrated soft-start circuit to provide a controlled start-up time. Furthermore, the MAX17632BATE+ utilizes an internal current sense resistor to limit the maximum load current, providing a quick start-up time and protection from short-circuit and over-load conditions.
