MAX1843ETI+T is a high-performance, 5-, 6- lead, Pb-free and chip-scale, low- Iq, step-up DC-DC switching regulator for Li-Ion/NiMH and Li-Polymer battery-powered system applications. The device operates over a wide 4V to 28V input voltage range and provides 500mA of continuous output current at 1.2V to 5.5V output voltage ranges. It features the industry-leading fast transient response, low ripple, and low quiescent currents of R ON(typ) of only 120µA.

Application field
The MAX1843ETI+T DC-DC switching regulator is designed for a wide range of 5V-18V input applications such as mobile and handheld equipment, USB on-the-go, game console and adapter power supplies. It offers high efficiency up to 94% and excellent line/load regulation. The integrated temperature protection helps protect the device from over temperature conditions and the wide 6V to 28Vadj input range ensure the device can work with any voltage source. The low quiescent current of 120µA helps to extend system battery life.

Working principles
The MAX1843ETI+T employ a synchronous rectifier architecture, which enables it to improve the efficiency of the regulator by approximately 10% on desaturation-sensed current mode controlled devices. The device also features an adjustable output voltage to ensure the low-dropout voltage when the output current is varied. In high current applications, a higher-current power transistor such as the MAX1843ETI+T is required as compared to other voltage regulators. The device employs a current-mode, PWM architecture with low current-sense threshold to provide excellent load and line regulation, as well as fast load transient response. The MAX1843ETI+T provides the best of both worlds with a highly-regulated output that is compensated to provide fast transient response throughout the full input voltage and output current range.When the output voltage is decreased, the output transistor is controlled by the internal error amplifier, which compares the output voltage to an internal reference voltage and adjusts the duty cycle of the internal switching system accordingly. As the output voltage rises, the duty cycle is automatically reduced to ensure that the power transistor is not subjected to excessive over voltages.The MAX1843ETI+T also provides a low-ripple mode, which allows the output voltage to be maintained within a few hundred micro volts of the desired setting, even in the presence of high load currents. The low ripple mode also helps reduce electrical noise potential, allowing the load circuit to be operated in more sensitive areas.

The MAX1843ETI+T DC-DC switching regulator provides an excellent solution for wide input voltage and output current range requirements. It is suitable for use with lithium-ion, lithium-polymer, or nickel-metal-hydride (NMC) battery systems, mobile and handheld devices, gaming consoles, and many other battery-powered applications. The device offers maximum efficiencies up to 94%, fast transient response and low ripple, and low quiescent current. It protects the system against over temperature and overvoltage conditions and provides an adjustable output voltage for optimal performance.
