It supports asynchronous 8-bit and 9-bit serial data transmission compatible with the RS-232 serial protocol.The MAX3110ECNI has some features that make it suitable for a wide range of applications such as industrial automation, instrumentation, consumer electronics, and medical equipment. They include up to three hardware selectable RS-232/CMOS levels with auto-sensing, low-power standby (less than 6mW), auto-sensing and high-speed asynchronous data rate up to 4.8kbps, and onboard diagnostic feedback.The MAX3110ECNI also offers a pull-up voltage detector which can be used to detect the presence of RS232 voltage levels and low voltage detect for monitoring the integrity of data transmission. It also offer an internally generated DCD (data carrier detect) output and an onboard 512-byte internal RAM. The MAX3110ECNI functions include full-duplex communication, 10-bit external address recognition, and automatic handshake supported. The internal RAM allows the UART to receive data without needing an external memory. The MAX3110ECNI supports both asynchronous and synchronous communication modes, so it can be used in various applications including industrial process control, medical equipment, instrumentation, digital content and digital signs. The three hardware selectable RS-232/CMOS levels allows the MAX3110ECNI to operate in any of a wide range of baud rates and the internal RAM makes the data transmission simpler. The auto-sensing feature automatically detects the baud rate and data format for both RS232 and CMOS type serial signals. In terms of working principle, the MAX3110ECNI is a single-chip solution for asynchronous serial communication applications. It contains hardware and software components to control the asynchronous serial data procedure between two communication partners. The data rate range of MAX3110ECNI UART is from 1200 to 4800 bits/sec.The internal structure of the MAX3110ECNI consists of a core containing two independent UARTs and a sleep register. The sleep register allow the MAX3110ECNI to maintain desired baud rate and other settings between transceivers. The MAX3110ECNI has an on-chip RAM of 512 bytes, which is used to store the received data and allows access to the stored data without SPH or external memory. The internal circuit of MAX3110ECNI is composed of shift register, data buffer, and parallel data latch.
