MAX44008EDT+ is a high performance family of color sensors manufactured by Maxim Integrated. The product is a standard color sensor with very high sensitivity, low noise and excellent integration capabilities. It is suitable for a wide variety of applications, such as color recognition, color verification/discrimination, and ambient light measurements, including sunlight.

The MAX44008EDT+ has an impressive spectral responsivity which ranges from 350 nm to 1100 nm. The product can measure light in three different spectral bands (red, green and blue). The integration time of the device is adjustable, allowing to operate in any light conditions, particularly ambient light. The integration time can be adjusted from a minimum of 10 μs up to a maximum of 65535 ms.

The product is based on Maxim’s patented silicon-on-sapphire processing, which produces a low-noise, low dark current photodiode, making it ideal for color sensing in ambient light conditions. The MAX44008EDT+ has great sensitivity to light, with a maximum response voltage of 12.5 mV/nW/cm2. It also has a low dark current of 0.05 nA.

The MAX44008EDT+ color sensor offers excellent signal to noise ratio performance. It is able to accurately measure color from a wide range of sources, including natural sunlight. The low noise levels and high resolution of the product enable it to measure color and light accurately when compared to a conventional digital camera.

When coupled with the MAX44008EDT+IC hardware, the device can provide highly reliable color sensing performance in challenging ambient light conditions. The product supports two operating modes, auto-brightness and mean detection. In the auto-brightness mode, the device will automatically adjust its response to changing ambient light levels. In the mean detection mode, the device will continuously measure illumination levels and output a digital signal indicating light intensity.
