MAX4612ESD

The MAX4612ESD is an economical general purpose ESD protection analog switch. It has a single-pole triple-throw (SP3T) configuration with an off-state impedance of 890 ohms. This device combines superior ESD protection from static discharges up to 25A peak and a breakdown voltage of 31V (typical) with robust logic inputs that can be driven from 3V logic. The MAX4612ESD features low insertion loss of less 0.01dB, high isolation of 45dB and fast switching times of 35ns (on).

The MAX4612ESD is designed for applications where ESD protection and low capacitance is required. It is suitable for automotive, portable electronics, industrial, test and measurement and external/secondary side of a battery charger applications. It is fully specified over temperature range -40°C to +85°C.

Working principles
The MAX4612ESD is an SP3T analog switch that is made up of three independent, parallel resistor-controlled switches. This configuration allows the MAX4612ESD to handle two input signals and two outputs signals simultaneously. The input signals can be either single-ended or differential signals, while the outputs signals can be single-ended signals with the outputs being connected in parallel. When the device is in the off-state, the inputs and outputs are disconnected, and the off-state impedance of the device is 890 ohms. When the device is in the on-state, the inputs and outputs are connected, and the on-state resistance of the device is 1 ohm. The device is also capable of providing 26dB isolation between the inputs and outputs.

The device is also capable of providing ESD protection up to 25A peak, with a breakdown voltage of 31V (typical). This allows the device to handle higher voltage spikes without damage. The device is also capable of providing a low insertion loss of less than 0.01dB and fast switching times of 35ns (on).
