MAX4702ETE+ is an interface device used to implement a form of Analog Switches, Multiplexers, and Demultiplexers. It is a single-pole, double throw (SPDT) switch integrated circuit that allows user to determine which of two input signals gets outputted. The device is fabricated using CMOS process and housed in a 6-pin package. It provides isolation of up to 40V on the two switched outputs and can operate in both switching and switching/buffering modes.

The basic idea behind an analog switch is that it allows for the easy selection and routing of analog input signals. This makes it useful for applications such as D/A (digital-to-analog) converters, data multiplexers and video switching. The MAX4702ETE+ is well suited for these types of applications since it provides excellent on-resistance (1.1Ω max) and charge injection (2pC max).

The device is composed of two separate analog switches, each with a digital control input (IN1, IN2). These inputs can be used in a variety of ways to control the switching between the two outputs OUT1 and OUT2. You can use a single digital voltage source to control both outputs (IN1=IN2); you can use two different digital voltage sources to independently control the two outputs (IN1≠IN2); or you can combine the two so that both inputs must be asserted for the switching to occur (IN1&IN2).

When the device is used in buffering mode, the two input signals are routed directly to the two outputs. This means that the switching action occurs when the digital input is asserted. When used in switching mode, the two input signals are not connected to the two outputs until the digital input is asserted. This mode is useful when you need to switch between two circuits but also need to provide some form of isolation between them.

The MAX4702ETE+ comes with an onboard shutdown pin that, when asserted, forces all channels to a high impedance state (no switching). This is useful in preventing the unintended alteration of signal paths. The device is ESD protected, making it more robust in electrostatic discharge environments. Additionally, the overvoltage, undervoltage and bidirectional noise immunity features protect the device from transient voltage spikes, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications.
