MAX5014CSA+ is an advanced high-efficiency synchronous step-down DC-DC switching controller designed to deliver tightly regulated output power in applications where space, high efficiency and low cost are desired. It is a 2-phase interleaving controller, supporting a wide voltage range of VIN 6V to 40V, and provides up to 2A output. MAX5014CSA+ regulates the output voltage using a fixed-frequency PWM current-mode control scheme and provides adjustable over-voltage protection, under-voltage lockout, and over-temperature protection in order to protect the system.

Working Principle
The MAX5014CSA+ is a two-phase interleaved synchronous step-down DC-DC switching controller. The controller regulates the output voltage by utilizing a fixed-frequency PWM current-mode control scheme. The MAX5014CSA+ supports a wide voltage range of VIN 6V to 40V, and provides up to 2A output. It uses a combination of an external drive FET, high-side synchronous rectification, and current mode control scheme to deliver high efficiency over a wide input and output voltage range.
In the first-leg of its current-mode control scheme, the controller uses two PWM signals with a 180° phase shift to drive two external FETs at a frequency determined by the internal oscillator. The current-mode control is set up to deliver a current-mode operation with low overshoot for fast transient response. The current-mode control ensures that the output voltage is kept in regulation even during fast transient response. The MAX5014CSA+ also uses a Programmable Soft-start to reduce output inrush current at start-up, and an Input Feed-Forward compensation is used to reduce the output voltage droop during fast line transients.
In order to protect the system, the controller provides adjustable over-voltage protection, under-voltage lockout and over-temperature protection. The over-voltage protection is enabled by connecting the over-voltage sensing circuit to the feedback pin. The under-voltage lockout is enabled by connecting the UVLO loss detection circuit to the COMP pin. The over-temperature protection is enabled by connecting a NTC thermistor to the TS pin. The MAX5014CSA+ also features a Power-Good indicator that signals when the output voltage is in regulation.
