The MAX5015CSA is a DC DC switching controller used for voltage regulation in power management integrated circuits (PMICs). This device is designed to provide efficient, switch-mode power conversion. The MAX5015CSA allows a wide input voltage range, supports direct conversion from an unregulated battery, AC/DC adapter, or USB supply, and allows dynamic voltage scaling across the entire input voltage range. It can serve as a step-down, step-up, inverting, or SEPIC (single-ended primary-inductance converter) controller. The MAX5015CSA is one of the few DC DC switching controllers that offer an integrated pulse-width modulator (PWM).

The device features a wide input voltage range of 2.4 V to 5.5 V and an adjustable output voltage range of 0.6 V to 5.0 V. The PWM switching frequency is adjustable from 250 kHz to 2 MHz, and the current limit is adjustable from 250 mA to 1.8 A. The MAX5015CSA also offers excellent efficiency over a wide range of input and output voltages, with an average efficiency of over 95%.

The device utilizes a current-mode control scheme, which significantly reduces the external component count compared to other controllers. It features integrated loop compensation and a built-in soft-start function for reducing input inrush current. The device also features an integrated power-on reset circuit that can be used to prevent false starts and/or reset external systems. The MAX5015CSA also includes a power good latch, which signals external components that the output voltage has settled and is in regulation.

The device is available in a 24-pin TQFN package with an exposed pad for improved thermal dissipation. The MAX5015CSA is suitable for a wide range of applications including distributed power architectures, point-of-load converters, audio amplifiers, portable instruments and consumer electronics.
