MAX5053BEUA is a Dual Field Effect Transistor (FET) Controller from Maxim Integrated. Working Principle

The MAX5053BEUA contains two independent low-side drivers and one independent high-side driver with the associated logic and control circuitry to support both synchronous and non-synchronous buck converters, boost converters and buck-boost converters.

The MAX5053BEUA regulates the output voltage by controlling the on/off times of the FETs. The on/off times are proportional to the pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal, the current range and the resistance of the output inductor. The device also provides continuous current sensing to optimize the control loop and reduce losses.

The device provides short circuit protection by detecting over-current conditions and shutting off the output FETs. It also has an adjustable programmable undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and overvoltage protection (OVP) thresholds to provide additional safety and reliability.

The MAX5053BEUA is available in a tiny 8-pin SSOP package and is rated for operation from –40°C to +125°C. The device is an excellent solution for high efficiency DC-DC controllers, and is ideal for space-constrained applications.
