The MAX5068EAUE-T is a high-performance, fixed-frequency step-down switch controller ideal for automotive battery management systems, industrial and telecom systems, and Li-ion charger applications. With its integrated dual current-sense amplifiers and 0.9V low-voltage reference, the MAX5068EAUE-T is easy to configure and provides optimum performance and flexibility for switching applications. The MAX5068EAUE-T is designed to provide high efficiency and low output voltage ripple in high-current applications. Additionally, this IC features an integrated undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and a 1.2V wake-up voltage.

Working principle:

The MAX5068EAUE-T is a synchronous buck converter using a fixed frequency strategy. It consists of an N-channel MOSFET driven by a control signal provided by the MAX5068EAUE-T controller. An internal oscillator produces the fixed frequency period T, and the external P and N driver signals define the on-time and off-time of the switching cycle. The on- and off-times determine the duty cycle D, and thus the output voltage.

The MAX5068EAUE-T integrates a dual current-sense amplifier for precise output current regulation. The flow of output current can be sensed through two dedicated pins and routes to the current-sense amplifier. The programmable current-sense threshold is user selectable with an external resistor. An over-current detection feature is also implemented.

The MAX5068EAUE-T features a low-voltage reference (0.9V) to sense the output voltage. This feature enables precise output voltage regulation without the need of an external reference. The output voltage can be adjusted with a single resistor, and voltage regulation accuracies of ±10mV are achievable.

The maximum current drain of the MAX5068EAUE-T is controlled via an external holding current setting pin. This feature enables power saving applications in battery-powered systems. The MAX5068EAUE-T also features an integrated undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and wake-up voltage to enable deep sleep modes. This feature enables low-power modes and is suitable for automotive applications.

The MAX5068EAUE-T provides multiple protection circuits built-in, including thermal shutdown and undervoltage lockout (UVLO). These features protect the device from being pushed beyond its power-dissipation limits, or being damaged when the input supply is beyond its safe working limits.

The MAX5068EAUE-T is available in an industry standard TSSOP-24 package. It is designed to meet international automotive standards and is available in aaREACH compliant version.

Application Field:

The MAX5068EAUE-T is ideal for automotive battery management systems, industrial and telecom systems, and Li-ion charger applications. It is suitable for implementing synchronous step-down converters with output currents up to 30A and lower. Combining high efficiency and low output voltage ripple, the MAX5068EAUE-T is suitable for applications such as power supply, DC/DC and single cell Li-ion/Polymer charger applications.

The MAX5068EAUE-T can also be used in other synchronous DC/DC converter applications, such as LDO linear regulators and synchronous buck-boost converter applications. Additionally, the MAX5068EAUE-T is suitable for point-of-load (POL) applications and digital ASIC power supplies.
