In general, step-down DC-DC converters are used to convert a higher input voltage to a lower output voltage by employing a converter topology consisting of a switch, an inductor, and a capacitor. It works by switching the higher input voltage through the switch and inductor and then to the output capacitor, which charges up. The two most common converter topologies are the buck and the synchronous buck converters. The MAX5068EAUE is a dual-channel DC-DC controller with voltage mode/current mode control and synchronous buck topology. The controller employs an analog multiplier as its error amplifier, and it offers user-configurable current limitation, soft-start, and programmable protective features. The dual-channel synchronous DC-DC converter topology is used to step down a higher input voltage to a lower output voltage. This is achieved by using two MOSFETs, an inductor, and a capacitor. When the high-side MOSFET is in the ON state, the inductor stores energy from the input voltage and current increases. When the low-side MOSFET is in the ON state, the stored energy is released and flows through the output capacitor, charging it.
