The MAX5069BAUE+T is a high-performance pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller with automatic ballast control. This controller is ideal for a broad range of power-supply applications, including LED lighting and LED sign/TV backlighting. It features enhanced dimming accuracy and a wide range of dimming features, such as adjustable PWM frequency, adjustable ballast range and adjustable soft-start ramp time.

The MAX5069BAUE+T’s operating DC voltage between 4.50V and 28VDC, allowing for versatile and cost-effective board layout and advancements in digital dimming accuracy and control. The on-chip hysteretic regulator delivers high output accuracy of ±10% or better over wide line and temperature ranges, providing improved efficiency and reliability. The MAX5069BAUE+T has two independent outputs with adjustable current limit, allowing for simultaneous control of two LED strings with individual dimming control.

The MAX5069BAUE+T works by regulating a direct current (DC) or alternating current (AC) power source. By using PWM, the voltage and current are modulated to limit the inrush current that occurs when the device is turned on, while also extending its life. The built-in soft start feature helps regulate the device by slowly ramping up the voltage after it has been turned on, preventing excessive inrush current.

The MAX5069BAUE+T also includes other features such as adjustable ON time, a power-good (PG) output flag, an adjustable OFF time target and an adjustable input voltage range. The on-chip output slope control eliminates audible noise by limiting the steepness of the output waveforms. The PWM frequency can be adjusted between 20kHz and 25kHz to optimize the system performance.

The MAX5069BAUE+T is a highly integrated switch-mode DC/DC controller which is designed for highly efficient control of hard-switching synchronous Buck DC/DC converters. The auto-ballast feature simplifies LED lighting design and provides additional efficiency. The auto-ballast feature allows the LED current to be maintained over a wide range of LED voltage up to the maximum range of the device. This allows the LED load to be matched to the power supply while improving the overall efficiency of the system.

The MAX5069BAUE+T is designed for a variety of applications such as LED lighting, LED sign/TV backlighting and automotive lighting applications. Its wide input voltage range and adjustable PWM frequency allows for flexible power supply design and improved dimming accuracy. The built-in hysteretic regulator provides high output accuracy over a wide range of line and temperature variations resulting in improved efficiencies and reliability. With its auto-ballast feature and adjustable ON times, this device ensures maximum efficiency and reliability in a wide range of LED applications.
