Working Principle
The MAX5075CAUA is an integrated and configurable gate driver with a wide operating range of up to 6 V. The driver features a programmable slew rate, overcurrent and overvoltage shut down and independent simultaneous high-side and low-side gate drive outputs that can drive up to 50 A each.
The device includes a pair of n-channel MOSFETs which are each configured with a gate driver output. These MOSFETs are connected in series and used to drive a switching FET.
When the switch is commanded to turn on, the current flows through both FETs. The current then passes through the body diode of each FET, causing a voltage drop. When the voltage drop exceeds the gate drive threshold, the MOSFETs will turn on, allowing current to flow. When the switch is commanded to turn off, the MOSFETs will turn off, blocking the current flow.
The device also features programmable slew rate and overcurrent and overvoltage protection. The slew rate can be programmed to either slow or fast to control the turn-on and turn-off times of the FET. The overcurrent protection can be programmed to shut down when a predetermined current limit is reached to protect the system against excessive currents.
The overvoltage protection feature will shutdown the device when the voltage exceeds a predetermined limit to provide protection from overvoltage conditions.
