The MAX5902ABEUT+T is a hot swap controller designed to provide portable electronic device designers with an integrated and reliable solution for supplying power in harsh environments. This IC provides an efficient, cost-effective and reliable hot swap solution for providing power in rugged and hazardous conditions. The MAX5902ABEUT+T is a high performance, low power hungry, low-profile, true hot-swap controller with configurable OVP and OCP levels.

The MAX5902ABEUT+T offers excellent noise immunity and is capable of handling currents up to 5A. It uses a hot swap ratio of 1:11 to ensure the highest efficiency and keep power losses in the system to a minimum. The MAX5902ABEUT+T also offers excellent protection against premature current sense overloads, making it ideal for applications that require continuous power supply and maximum current handling capability.

The MAX5902ABEUT+T is designed to control the power MOSFETs and provide power to the system in harsh environments. It is designed to operate in extreme temperature range (-20-125 C) and at high switching frequency (up to 1MHz). It is capable of accurately regulating the current during devices turn-on and off, protecting the system against over-current and short-circuit events. Its wide input voltage range (from 4.75V to 17V) makes it suitable for battery powered applications and rail-to-rail tracking. The IC includes an OVP protection that can be programmed to a desired level or disabled, along with configurable OCP levels.

The MAX5902ABEUT+T provides a flexible and configurable hot swap solution for protecting against unexpected power-up and power-down events. It features an adaptive ramp current limit system that can be tuned to maintain the output current within a predetermined window, allowing for an excellent combination of current handling capability and power efficiency. The IC includes an inrush current limit function that soft-starts the load current to prevent overshooting, which may occur when quickly switching applications on and off.

The MAX5902ABEUT+T is optimized for high current load applications and provides a wide variety of protection and diagnostic features, such as temperature-compensated OVP/OCP, overcurrent fault timer with automotive grade noise immunity, and programmable delay timer. It can operate in low-power mode during standby, and has an active low Power-OK output, open-drain fault flag, and an in-circuit timer reset command.

The MAX5902ABEUT+T has been engineered for use in portable and automotive systems, providing fault protection for several applications and diagnostics for system monitoring.
