PMIC - Hot Swap Controllers
The MAX5955AEEE+ is a 1.5A hot swap controller with current balancing for up to four cabinets. It provides a safe, reliable and complete monitoring and control solution for hotswap power management applications. For applications requiring multiple rails, the MAX5955AEEE+ allows each rail to be hot swapped, providing a solution with a current step of up to 1.5A. With up to 4 logic-controlled input and output pins, it can switch multiple connections on and off together. In addition, it can easily reverse the voltage of adjacent pins, allowing simultaneous supply and removal of power over a single pin. It includes protection features such as automatically turning on output as soon as input voltage is applied, and automatically turning off output when input voltage is absent. Furthermore, the MAX5955AEEE+ fully integrated negative charge pump extends the PCIe range to -0.5V, allowing appropriate voltage drops when driving large currents.
The MAX5955AEEE+ is specifically designed for applications in the data center, Telecommunications, Transportation and Medical fields. In applications requiring multiple racks, the MAX5955AEEE+ can easily provide a redundant connection between racks and facilitate addition or removal of racks. Working principle
The MAX5955AEEE+ starts when a source voltage is applied to the input pin. Once the voltage is greater than the undervoltage threshold, the device will delay the output voltage suppressor (OVS) and turn on the output. In addition, the device also implements auto-false feature (AFL) to detect a predetermined current over the driver\'s turn_on/turn-off threshold. When the current rises above this threshold, the AFL output changes from low to high, indicating that a successful power on/off operation has occurred. In addition, additional protection protection is also provided for overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature situations.
When the output is turned off, the device waits for a period of time for the disconnection to take place before turning off the OVS. This prevents excessive power consumption due to inrush currents during connection or disconnection. The MAX5955AEEE+ also offers current sharing capability, enabling the connection and disconnection of multiple outputs while maintaining a single load current.
