A power management integrated circuit (PMIC) - supervisors, such as MAX6335US16D3+T, are used to manage and integrate the multiple functions associated with the power supply of an electronic system. These functions include monitoring of the system’s voltage rails, sequencing and limiting of their current draw, generating system reset signals and providing fault indication signals.

The MAX6335US16D3+T application field is a wide range, from mobile devices to complex, high-end systems. It has a wide operating voltage range of 1.2 V to 15 V and can be used to monitor and control up to six different power rails. This device also features adjustable power-on reset and power-off reset/discharge timing, variable reset thresholds, and configurable reset assertion and de-assertion delays.

The MAX6335US16D3+T working principle is based on simple resistive voltage-divider circuits that work in series with the monitored rails. As the voltage on the monitored rails rises, the current drawn through the resistors increases. This, in turn, causes an output voltage to be generated at the sense pins of these voltage supervisors that is proportional to the voltage on the monitored rails. This output voltage is compared internally to the voltage reference, and the reset signal is generated when the monitored rail reaches the set threshold.

The device also features an I2C interface, and this can be used to configure the device, monitor the voltage levels on the monitored rails, and generate a reset signal when required. It also features an internal voltage monitor, which can be used to generate a reset signal if the voltage on one of the monitored rails drops too low.The MAX6335US16D3+T is also able to detect and report various fault conditions, such as brown-outs, over- and under-voltage conditions, and over-temperature conditions.
