Power management integrated circuit (PMIC) is an integrated circuit normally found in portable electronic devices that monitors and controls the power, hence the name "power management". PMICs may be used to control a wide range of electrical loads and functions, such as voltage regulation, power sequencing, sequencing of control signals and power sequencing. PMICs can reduce the number of discrete components traditionally used in a circuit, reducing the power consumption and size of a device.

A supervisor is a subgate of a PMIC that monitors, supervises and controls the power supply and other related parameters. Supervisors, also referred to as monitor ICs, track the status of the power rail and the system temperature, as well as the quality and operating environment. The supervisor uses on-chip comparators to monitor and compare incoming signals, and makes decisions about whether to switch on/off the power and report an alarm, depending on the input signals.
