Working Principle Of MAX6386XS16D1-T

The MAX6386XS16D1-T uses a precision voltage detector and low leakages CMOS logic to monitor system voltages, such as VCC, VIN1, VIN2 and VIN3, and notifies the microprocessor of any error conditions via a RESET or PWROK signal. A manual RESET button allows the user to check if the system is functioning properly, when desired. The MAX6386XS16D1-T also features an on-chip NRST and PWROK buffer, allowing the IC to operate without external buffer or gate logic. This simplifies the PC board layout and reduces costs. The NRST logic monitors not only VCC, but also VIN1, VIN2 and VIN3 for a power-on reset, ensuring that the system is started in the correct state.

In addition, the device monitors AC/DC adapter plug-in detection and VIN3 cycling functions. When the AC adapter voltage is higher than 15V or lower than 11.4V, the AC/DC adapter connection status is detected by the IC and is signaled by the ACDET output. This output can be used to control the external equipment power-on sequence, prolonging the life of the system.

The VIN3 cycling monitors the VIN3 input and generates a RESET signal when it is detected in the active or low state. This function helps eliminate the need to manually or electronically reset the system after power-down to allow the system to reboot correctly.

The MAX6386XS16D1-T provides accurate start-up voltages and triggers receivers, such as USB 3.0, which demand tight voltage and current specifications. It has a low reset resistor (less than 4.5k) that ensures small reset active time.
