Moreover, the tall and slim TSOT-23-5 package with the small footprint provides high accuracy and excellent board-level thermal performance. It has an operating voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V and operates with a low supply current of only 120µA.

Working Principle

The MAX6646YMUA+T contains an ultra-low-power, remote diode temperature sensor. Its resistance decreases exponentially as the temperature increases. The resistance is thus measured through a series of networks, allowing the chip to accurately measure temperature changes then output corresponding voltage signals.

The digital output utilizes a pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal to convey measured temperatures at the microprocessor core’s input. The pulse-width modulated signal is capable of resolving a temperature range of 32°C with a pulsewdith accuracy of ±6.5%, and a frequency of 600Hz. The PWM signal has an output duty cycle of 31µs and an idle period of 200µs.

The digital output also utilizes an open-drain output logic. An internal pullup resistor coupled with an external pull-up resistor pulls the output voltage to the supply voltage when the temperature is equal to or higher than +125°C. The open-drain logic thus reduces the chip’s power consumption and increases immunity to noise on the data line.
