Introduction
MAX6722AUTTWD1+T is a low-cost integrated circuit (IC) for the power monitoring and protection of modern electronic systems. It is a component of the Pericom Semiconductor’s Programmable Supervisor product family. It features a power-good indication, reset output, as well as reset input, temperature monitoring/protection, low-dropout linear regulators, adjustable overvoltage/undervoltage indicator, watchdog timer and more. This unit is available in a 16-lead TSSOP (thin shrunk small outline package).

Working Principle
The MAX6722AUTTWD1+T monitors the power supply for a degree of accuracy and stability. It has both positive and negative voltage monitoring capability. In order to ensure correct voltage levels, it has an adjustable overvoltage/undervoltage level detection circuit. When the input voltage drops low or rises high than the set threshold, the reset output is driven low and the power-good output (PGO) is driven high. The reset output remains low until the input voltage is within the set limits and a reset pulse is generated.

The MAX6722AUTTWD1+T also has a temperature protection/monitoring feature that provides thermal shutdown protection for critical components in the system. This IC provides temperature monitoring and protection (TMP) of the following types of devices: junction temperature-sensitive transistors or diodes, analog components and digital ICs. The resistor network sets the maximum temperature that can be achieved before the IC goes into thermal shutdown. When the IC temperature reaches the set threshold, it will shut down the IC and the reset output is driven low.

The MAX6722AUTTWD1+T features an adjustable precision low-dropout linear regulator that can operate as a standalone power supply. It is a fixed-output voltage linear regulator that has two power-supply pins: VCC and VOUT. The VOUT voltage can be adjusted on the device by setting the output voltage on the reference pin. The linear regulator operates at sub-3V input voltage and has a voltage-dropout voltage depending on the load current. It is designed to provide a regulated and stable output voltage.

The MAX6722AUTTWD1+T also features a watchdog timer for time-out protection. The watch dog timer will generate a reset output if the timer ever fails.
