Power management integrated circuits (PMIC) are specialized multi-functional ICs designed to provide regulated voltage power to a host of circuits. PMICs are used in a variety of applications ranging from consumer electronics, cellular phones, automotive, and avionics systems. In particular, PMICs play an important role in monitoring voltage levels and maintaining a stable technological environment for the completion of tasks. Supervisors serve a similar purpose as PMICs, but often provide additional protection components to keep the system from entering a dangerous state. The MAX6726KASHD3+T supervisor integrates a high-performance fault protection, voltage monitoring, shutdown, and reset solution for laptop computers, game consoles, and other high-current digital systems.The MAX6726KASHD3+T supervisor features a voltage monitor, supply voltage supervisor, and fault protection circuit with adjustable, system-specific voltage trips. The voltage monitor tracks the system-specific output voltage closely and has the ability to detect transient and continuous over/under-voltage conditions while providing the reset assertion duration of 50ms minimum. The supply voltage supervisor circuit allows system resets and power supplies to be controlled independently with adjustable supply voltage threshold and reset signal delay. Finally, the fault protection circuit detects and regulates sustained signal over/under-voltage conditions with a time-out reset signal.The integrated voltage monitoring, reset, fault protection and power supply supervisor controls provide an efficient, fast, and highly accurate way for system designers to monitor electricity flow in portable applications. The MAX6726KASHD3+T is capable of operating over a temperature range of -40 to 105°C, making it an ideal choice for extreme temperature applications. Additionally, it supports an input voltage range from +1.6V to +6.0V.Moreover, the MAX6726KASHD3+T Supervisor provides an efficient solution for system designers by allowing users to configure voltage ranges for input pins as well as monitor them. This is accomplished by the integrated programmable watchdog timer, reset signal assertion comparator, and voltage range detector. The watch-dog timer is programmable, providing control over response time and reset signal duration. Its programmability allows users to set the reset signal duration between 2ms and 600ms based on the application’s requirements. The timer monitors supply voltage and system activity, and generates a reset signal in the event of a fault. The reset signal assertion comparator generates a reset signal when a given supply voltage threshold is crossed. Its programmability allows users to regulate the input voltage level where the reset will be asserted. The comparator has an adjustable reset signal duration from 50ms to 600ms, allowing users to configure it for the specific application.The voltage range detector allows users to input a minimum and maximum voltage range in which the supervisor is to operate. This detector monitors the input voltage and, if the input supply voltage is outside of the programmed range, it will enable the reset signal and power supplies for protection of the system.All in all, the MAX6726KASHD3+T supervisor is an ideal solution for protecting high-current applications from over and under-voltage conditions while providing advanced features that guarantee highly accurate voltage monitoring.
