The MAX6734KASHD2+T Supervisors from Maxim Integrated are small, low-cost, low-power voltage monitoring ICs intended for use in a wide range of applications, from automotive to consumer electronics. In addition to monitoring the main supply voltage and generating a LOW output when that voltage drops below a user-defined threshold, the MAX6734KASHD2+T can also sense several other voltages and current conditions as well, including over-voltage/under-voltage, voltage/current dropouts, and over-current/over-power conditions. In an automotive application, for example, these Supervisors can monitor the voltage and current conditions of the powertrain, engine, and battery systems, helping to ensure safe vehicle operation.
The MAX6734KASHD2+T is available in a space-saving, low-profile 6-pin TSOT23A package running on a 2 ms internal RC oscillator with wide programmable threshold settings and user-selectable polarity for up to four different systems. It includes an under-voltage/over-voltage (UV/OV) monitor to determine thresholds, as well as two gated outputs that are capable of sinking up to 20 mA. The first output (LOW) matches the UV/OV monitor, and it can be programmed to generate a LOW output when the voltage drops below a specific threshold. The second output (FAULT) is responsible for monitoring any additional conditions, such as over-current/over-power faults or voltage/current dropouts. It can be programmed to generate a LOW output when any of these conditions are detected.
The MAX6734KASHD2+T can also monitor the primary supply voltage and generate a LOW output when the voltage drops below a user-defined threshold. The supply voltage can be monitored in either the single-ended or the differential mode. In addition, the chip includes a 10-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that can be used to monitor external voltages and detect power-on voltage dropouts. The chip provides a 100 ms filter time constant for the ADC as well, helping to ensure accurate readings.
In terms of its power requirements, the MAX6734KASHD2+T is designed to run on a single 2.7V to 5.5V supply, consumes no more than 60 μA of current when running at 3V, and has a very low standby current (1 μA typ @ 3V). Thanks to its tiny 6-pin TSOT23A package, it can easily fit into almost any application, and it also comes with an on-chip temperature sensor to ensure accuracy.
