Working Principles

The MAX6751KA30+T is a supervisor IC that monitors supply voltage levels, then flags and/or asserts a reset output at preset thresholds. The reset out polarity is determined by the voltage sense configuration for either active-high or active-low reset.The MAX6751KA30+T accepts supply voltage input ranging from 2.5 V to 5.5 V. Power-on reset (POR) is provided at the TOFF threshold of the supply voltage, typically 2.09 V, when the supply voltage ramps up. This reset state is cleared when the voltage ramps further and surpasses the POR threshold voltage, typically 2.35 V, after which the supply voltage is monitored.In normal operation, when the VSEN voltage is within the brownout threshold (dBV), the supply voltage is considered normal and the reset output remains low. When it falls below the brownout threshold, the reset output is asserted. The MAX6751KA30+T provides an active-high or active-low reset dependent on the voltage sense of the VSEN voltage, as listed in the parameter table.At the same time, the MAX6751KA30+T provides a window comparator that allows the reset low pulsewidth to be e modified. Pin WDIS sets the pulse width of the reset, typical high (tWH) and low (tWL) values are selected by connecting resistor RWS across two pins called RSHOR and RSLOW. This can be used to create a reset window that maximizes system up time.The MAX6751KA30+T also provides a power-on reset that is triggered when power is first applied. This is reset state will be cleared as soon as the supply voltage rises above the POR threshold voltage.Finally, in order to ensure proper operation, the MAX6751KA30+T also comes with a manual reset input, MR, and reset output, Ro. When the manual reset is triggered, the reset output will be asserted. It can be used to force the IC to reset after a system has failed, or can be used as a reset input for other analog ICs such as A/D converters or motors.
