The MAX704TESA is a programmable supervisor IC designed for reset sequencing, power-on reset, watch-dog functions, battery-low voltage monitoring, under-voltage sensing and system monitoring. It is a general-purpose reset and supervisor IC specifically designed for supply-voltage monitoring, reset and sequencing applications. The MAX704TESA is pin-compatible with the MAX703 reset and supervisor IC, with greater flexibility and lower power dissipation. This supervisor IC can be used to shut down the system/processor power when a fault condition is detected. In addition, it is used to control the reset to a microprocessor or logic device over multiple power-supply voltage nodes. The MAX704TESA is ideal for reset and supply monitoring applications in mobile handsets, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players and other portable applications.

The MAX704TESA is a programmable supervisor IC. It features accurate supply-voltage monitoring and independent reset and power-on reset (POR) delays. The reset and POR circuits can each be separately configured with a reset level and reset timeout period by changing the resistance value of an external resistor. The reset circuits are designed to respond to both rising and falling edge timing for greater flexibility when responding to fault states. The supplies monitoring circuit provides accurate monitoring of supply voltages down to 2.031 V. An on-chip comparator can be enabled to generate an alert signal whenever the monitored voltage is below the specified level.

The MAX704TESA also contains an on-chip window detector that can provide a reset output whenever the detected voltage falls outside of a preset range. This is useful to detect brown-out and over-voltage conditions. The MAX704TESA also features a power-on reset (POR) circuit which can generate a reset pulse whenever the power-on voltage falls below a certain level. The POR circuit is useful to ensure that the device starts up under safe conditions. The MAX704TESA also features a watchdog circuit that can generate a reset pulse whenever a periodic activity is not detected. The watchdog timer can be configured by selecting the appropriate resistor values. It is important to use the correct resistor values so that the watchdog timer is triggered at the correct time.

The MAX704TESA is an ideal supervisor IC for reset and supply monitoring applications in mobile handsets, personal digital assistants (PDAs), MP3 players and other portable applications.
