MAX706ATESA+T PMIC - Supervisors offer design flexibility, stability and unique features. The MAX706ATESA+T claims to be the industry’s first supervisor IC providing both a reset circuit and an advanced power supply controller. In terms of the application field, the MAX706ATESA+T is designed for use in a wide range of systems, from high-performance servers to datacom, industrial and embedded control. In terms of the working principle, the supervisor device comprises of a POR/BOR generator and an external reset control. The POR/BOR generator monitors the power-on status and effects a reset to the associated system, while the external reset control provides a means of resetting the system manually, or by sensing of other external events. The POR/BOR generator monitors the voltage at a VCC pin and compares it with a pre-programmed threshold voltage. If the voltage falls below the pre-programmed threshold, an assertion of the reset is triggered.
The MAX706ATESA+T has an internal 0.4V reference voltage for under-voltage monitoring, as well as an adjustable 4.2V to 4.7V threshold voltage for the POR/BOR circuit. This allows the device to monitor incoming power supply rails and trigger the reset if required. In addition, the MAX706ATESA+T also monitors the supply voltage to the internal regulator, and provides an over-voltage protection feature.
The MAX706ATESA+T also has an adjustable soft-start feature that enables gradual voltage rise to aid system stability during power-up sequence. This is particularly useful in cases where the system may have multiple capacitive loads, and so high inrush currents may cause instability. The device also supports an adjustable delay before the reset signal is asserted, allowing time for the system to reach full power-up.
