PMIC - Supervisors
A power management integrated circuit (PMIC) supervisor is an integrated circuit, which monitors the supply voltage of an embedded system or a certain part of the embedded system, detects faults, and informs the system to enable corrective action. PMIC supervisors enable proper operation of complex systems and protect the system against certain external or internal malfunctions. One of such PMIC supervisors isMAX706PCSA.The MAX706PCSA is a low-power, low-voltage combination reset supervisor and power-on reset (POR) circuit integrated with a window watchdog timer and power detect circuit. The MAX706PCSA is designed to maintain proper system initialization and sequencing in embedded systems. Its combination reset controller maintains internal reset logic that keeps the processor reset and the system disabled until all system power rails have stabilized and any external reset conditions have been met.In its application field, the MAX706PCSA can be used in battery-powered systems, such as handheld instruments, computer peripherals and other portable devices. It\'s also perfectly suitable for systems operating with a single power supply. The unique low-voltage, low-power CMOS technology of the MAX706PCSA guarantees low power dissipation and prevents the device from generating too much heat. Regardless of whether the MAX706PCSA is used in battery-powered or single supply systems, it\'s important to note that its power-on reset controller holds the reset line in an active low state for a guaranteed 200ms delay, allowing for proper power-up and power-down system initialization processes, ensuring that the processor is properly initialized.The watchdog timer of the MAX706PCSA can be used to reset the processor after a system fault is detected, to help effectively prevent system lock-up and control the system\'s safety condition. The watchdog’s timeout period can be programmed to any value from 5ms to 2,2s by using a single external resistor. By comparing the incoming SYSTEM RESET active-low level with a preset threshold, the watchdog also serves as an active-high open-drain power-good output, indicating that all system voltages have stabilized.To sum it up, the MAX706PCSA is a low-voltage, low-power CMOS device, which includes a reset controller, power-on reset circuit, window watchdog timer and power detect circuit.
