Power management integrated circuits (PMICs) are essential components in modern electronics, responsible for managing the ever-growing range of power levels, voltages, and efficiencies. Supervisors are one type of PMIC that monitor power supply characteristics and produce warning signals when out-of-range conditions exist. The MAX706SESA+ Supervisory IC is a precision power-on reset circuit with exceptionally clean reset thresholds and a low supply current that is designed for monitoring the power rails of microprocessors, DSPs, FPGAs, and memory systems.

The MAX706SESA+ IC is optimized for use with a low power processor, such as a MAX705 or MAX706, or a microprocessor, such as an ARM Cortex-M series processor. It is configured with a precision voltage monitor (PVM) and reset generator circuit that are configured to provide precision threshold detection of power-on conditions. The PVM monitors the power supply voltage for an input voltage in the range of 2.4V to 3.6V, and the reset generator produces a reset pulse on power-on that is synchronized to the input supply. A built-in delay circuit ensures that the reset pulse delays long enough for the input voltage to stabilize.

The MAX706SESA+ is also configured with an input filter, a watchdog timer (WDT) and a reset output driver. The input filter reduces noise on the input supply, and the WDT monitors the power-on sequence by providing an alarm output when a preset time-out is exceeded or when the power supply voltage drops below the threshold voltage. The reset output driver ensures that the reset pulse generated is reliable and clean.

In addition to the power-on reset capability, the MAX706SESA+ offers the option of using either an open-drain output driver or a push-pull output driver for the driving of the reset pin. The open-drain output driver allows a pull-up resistor to be added to the circuit for improved noise immunity and faster reset time. The push-pull output driver provides more drive current, allowing for a faster reset time. An adjustable pulse width and a manual reset input are also available, allowing for user customization and flexibility.
