Power Management IC (PMIC) - Supervisors provide functions to monitor small-signal electrical signals, circuitry, and systems to ensure performance and reliability and to provide a safe environment to operate. These signals may include voltage, current, and temperature. The MAX706TCSA+ is a low-voltage microprocessor reset, precision voltage detector, and voltage supervisor all in one.
The MAX706TCSA+ is designed to protect sensitive load switches, microprocessors, memories, and other circuits from improper power-up and power-down conditions, and to be compatible with I²C and SPI interfaces. Working Principle
The MAX706TCSA+ is an advanced three-in-one PMIC – Supervisors system. Its low power consumption and wide input voltage range make it ideal for a variety of applications where power supervision is needed. It combines a low-voltage microprocessor reset, precision voltage detector, and voltage supervisor functions in a single package.
The reset function monitors the voltage of the system power rail and holds the reset output low when the system voltage is below the user-defined reset threshold. The open-drain reset output can be extended over a wide range of reset voltages. The reset output is held low until the voltage reaches the reset voltage. When the voltage rises above the reset threshold, the reset output is deasserted.
The precision voltage-monitoring feature of the MAX706TCSA+ is used to monitor the voltage of the system power rail and detect small fluctuations. The user-defined monitor threshold can be set to detect any voltage of the system power rail above or below a certain level. The monitoring output is an open-drain output that can be extended to a wide voltage range.
The voltage supervisor of the MAX706TCSA+ is used to monitor the supply voltage and its variations. The supervisor threshold is set to a level below the normal operating voltage level and is used to detect issues such as overvoltage or undervoltage. When the supply voltage drops below the set threshold, the supervisor output is asserted and the device is reset.
