Working Principle

The MAX708EPA+ is an active-low open-drain reset controller that monitors an input voltage and generates a reset signal when the voltage falls below an adjustable threshold. The reset signal is an active-low, open-drain output that remains active until the reset conditions are cleared. The reset can be cleared by two independent methods. The first is through a manual reset, which is triggered by a pushbutton or other external logic signal. The second is an automatic reset, which is triggered by an internal timer. The timer period is adjustable with an external capacitor.

In addition to the reset output, the MAX708EPA+ also features an active-high power-on reset (POR) output, which is activated when the input voltage rises above the adjusted VCC threshold. This output is used to sequentially power on the system peripherals, such as memory, bus controllers, and other system components, and to ensure orderly system startup. The MAX708EPA+ is also equipped with an active-high watchdog output, which is triggered when the timer period is exceeded or the external reset conditions are not cleared before the timer period expires.

The MAX708EPA+ is a highly reliable reset solution that offers excellent EMI immunity, power transient protection, and low power operation. It features a low standby current of 300 nA, and its input voltage range spans 0.9 V to 7.0 V. The MAX708EPA+ is a RoHS compliant device and is available in a 16-pin TSSOP package.
