Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) supervisors or also called supervisory chips enable designers to improve the overall system reliability by providing a variety of integrated functions such as power reset, power-on reset, power-down reset and system reset. The MAX709TESA+ Functional Supervisor, part of Maxim Integrated’s family of MAX709 Supervisors, is a power-on reset and manual reset supervisor with the ability to monitor VDD levels up to 6V.The MAX709TESA+ addressed the need of designers who wanted to improve system reliability by monitoring the voltage levels of multiple power rails and generating a system reset if any one of the voltages falls outside of its functional limits. It also provides a manual reset input to allow engineers to reset their system in case of an emergency or when a voltage is out of spec or does not come up properly. The MAX709TESA+ is a great solution for the customers who need a POWER-ON reset IC with a much lower supply current but do not sacrifice on the robustness of their designs.

The MAX709TESA+ is capable of detecting any voltage that’s out of specification and resetting the system on power-up. It can monitor multiple power rails up to 6V. It has an adjustable reset threshold voltage of 2.6V and with a typical delay of 8ms. It also has an active-high manual reset and an active-low power-down reset. A manual reset is useful for designers that want a way to reset the system without power cycle.

The MAX709TESA+ comes with a host of features that make it an excellent choice for power management, reset, and system supervisors. It is fully temperature compensated and capable of operating from -40°C to +125°C. It is designed with a typical 1µA supply current and has a 25µA max enable. There is an active-low power down input for power rail keep-out and a status output to indicate when the reset is active. The integrated watchdog timer has an initialize timeout period that is adjustable between 1ms and 255ms.
