The MAX747CSD+T is a highly integrated direct current (DC) to direct current (DC) switch controller, part of a family of DC-DC voltage regulators, which is mainly used to provide a output voltage proportional to an adjustable differential control voltage. The MAX747CSD+T is most suitable for industrial, medical, automotive, communications and computing applications requiring efficient energy conversion. Specifically, this switch controller is ideal for generating precisely regulated outputs to supply logic and microcontrollers, and peripherals.
This integrated switch controller allows the design engineer to switch quickly between high efficiency, Light Load, Burst ModeTM operation and low noise, high current Short Circuit protection; its integrated control loop derivations allow for high efficiency designs with easy output voltage adjustment. It is designed to accept any form of input voltage from 0 to 7.5 volts, allowing for operation from very low input voltage sources, such as a battery. It also features short-hiccup and short-circuit protection as well as thermal shutdown.
The MAX747CSD+T has access to an integrated boost field effect transistor (FET) which can supply power to circuits running on USB or other low voltage systems. The switch -controller features excellent line and load regulation and does not need a compensation capacitor or a voltage reference to maintain stability. It has a current limit response time of less than 1us and have a very low 75mA quiescent current.
The main switching characteristics of the MAX747CSD+T are a PWM frequency of 500kHz, a maximum power range from 0.5 to 2.5W, and a maximum operating frequency up to 2.5 MHz. It also features an adjustable soft start and an adjustable dead-time control for added safety. It can supply up to 200mA of DC current, and has a minimum pulse-width modulation (PWM) current of 40mA.
The MAX747CSD+T also has a wide range of safety features built-in to help protect the device against various threats. It has an integrated reverse polarity protection which prevents current from flowing through the device in case of wrong polarity connections. It also includes an over-temperature protection, undervoltage lockout and inrush current limiting. Furthermore, the chip also has an integrated voltage amplifier which allows the user to adjust the output voltage without having to perform adjustments to the voltage feedback divider circuit.
The MAX747CSD+T is also protected from over-voltage conditions by an integrated voltage overload detection circuit. In case of an overload, it immediately shuts down the device, protecting from potential damage from switching elements. In addition, a fault-signal output allows the user to detect any abnormal operation.
Finally, the MAX747CSD+T features an auto-sensing shut down circuit which monitors the output voltage and shuts down the device in case of over-voltage or under-voltage faults. This allows the user to control the output voltage precisely, providing the necessary protection for sensitive loads.
