Working Principle

The MAX767CAP+ integrates two independent PolyPhase PWM controllers, each capable of controlling two synchronous, power MOSFETs. This dual-phase architecture can provide up to 2x the flexibility and current-handling capability of a single-phase design. The core of each PWM controller is a 100MHz oscillator enabling very efficient operation. The two controllers can be independently configured to provide output up to 6-phase power rail solutions.

The MAX767CAP+ also integrates two current-sensing amplifiers, two dedicated comparators, as well as four programmable output pins. These features make the MAX767CAP+ an ideal solution for designers looking to implement multiple power rails with a wide range of operating frequencies. The current-sense amplifiers provide the necessary accuracy and bandwidth to meet the current-limiting requirements of Li-Ion battery switchers.

The MAX767CAP+ also includes an integrated overvoltage immune (OVI) protection that eliminates the need for external N-channel MOSFETs. This integrated OVI protection prevents damage due to overvoltage conditions and improves system reliability. Additionally, the MAX767CAP+ provides integrated Adaptive Negotiation™ (AN) circuitry, enabling several adjacent devices to step-up their voltage levels simultaneously.

The MAX767CAP+ also integrates a digital interface, providing control and monitoring capabilities. The controller includes a digital interface which can be used to select various operating modes, monitor system status, and provide control and monitoring of internal settings. The controller also provides a wide range of safety features, including Overload Protection (OLP), OC Shutdown (OCS), Overvoltage Protection (OVP) and Undervoltage Protection (UVP). These features ensure optimal system performance and maximum system reliability.

The MAX767CAP+ is packaged in a small 8-pin, 4mm x 4mm, 10-pad QFN. It is also available in a 28-pin TSSOP package. This makes it an ideal solution for space-restricted applications.
