MAX793SESE+ Application Field and Working Principle
Power management integrated circuits (PMICs) are used in a broad range of applications such as automotive, consumer electronics, industrial, telecommunications, personal computers, portable devices, servers, and many more. A PMIC is a single integrated circuit (IC) that provides multiple power control features within a single package. Generally, PMICs are divided into different categories such as voltage regulators (VRs), battery management (BM), power interface (PI), application processors (AP), and supervisors. Supervisors are the most important components in the PMICs, as they are used to monitor, detect, and prevent malfunctioning systems that may lead to malfunctioning applications.The MAX793SESE+ is a low-power supervisor from Maxim Integrated, designed with a high-accuracy voltage detection and onboard reset generation in a single chip. This supervisor IC has been designed for a wide range of reset and power sequenced applications in the automotive, industrial, telecom and military market applications. The MAX793SESE+ IC supports both single- and multi-voltage applications, and its onboard regulators respond reliably to voltage variations. The IC is designed with a wide input voltage range of up to 45V, making it suitable for high-input voltage applications, such as those in automotive, industrial and military systems.The MAX793SESE+ IC has three main features: voltage detection, watchdog timer and reset generator. The IC includes a comparator that monitors the input voltage and an internal presettable voltage detector. When the input voltage drops below the set threshold voltage of the voltage detector, the output of the comparator goes logical «low», indicating an undervoltage condition. Furthermore, the IC also includes an integrated watchdog timer that enables the reset signal to be triggered at a set interval when the voltage falls below the desired threshold. Lastly, the reset generator asserts an external reset signal when an error condition is detected, which can be used to reset the system.The watchdog timer of the MAX793SESE+ IC can be configured for early or delayed reset by adjusting the internal duration of the watchdog timer using the external capacitor. The device is designed with a power-on reset (POR) feature which can be used to detect and reset the device if the power supply voltage is lost, ensuring the stability of the system. The reset generator enables the MAX793SESE+ IC to generate a reset signal of 10µs (default) or 50ms (selectable) in response to an undervoltage fault. The reset signal is generated only when the input voltage is below the detector threshold voltage. The device is designed in a 28-pin TSSOP package and is fully RoHS compliant and compatible with both 3.0V and 5.5V voltage supply systems. The MAX793SESE+ IC has a very low power consumption of 10µA and has a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.In summary, the MAX793SESE+ IC is a low-power supervisor, designed for reset and power sequenced applications.
