Introduction

The MAX798ESE+ is a low-cost, non-synchronous, step-down DC-DC controller with a wide 8V to 44V input voltage range. The features of the MAX798ESE+ include a fixed-frequency PWN current-mode control, low quiescent current, low external components count, and fast current-mode transient response.

The MAX798ESE+ is ideal for use in a variety of DC-DC voltage regulator applications, including automotive applications. It can provide up to 8A of continuous current with equal current across the synchronous rectifiers. In addition, the MAX798ESE+ comes with integrated frequency foldback, thermal shutdown and wide supply voltage operation.

Working Principle

The MAX798ESE+ features an internal PWM regulator which switches the output voltage with a fixed frequency in order to regulate the output voltage. The MAX798ESE+ also includes an external voltage sense line, which allows the maximum output voltage to be adjusted via external resistors.
