Application Field and Working Principle
The MAX8630YETD15+T devices can be used to provide constant current to drive LEDs in many automotive, general-purpose, and industrial lighting applications. Wide input voltage range from 4.2 V to 14 V and up to 15 strings of LEDs, up to 33.3V string voltage, enable diverse and extended applications for photo-metric design. Output current can be as low as 20mA per string. Its main feature is its high efficiency, up to 93% @ 12VIN and 10A output, same as average dimming with pulse-width modulation (PWM) technology.
MAX8630YETD15+T is designed primarily to drive LEDs with constant current. It uses a low voltage input signal to control LED current, PWM or analog input, or a Pot (potentiometer) signal to adjust current. By modulating the LED current, the driver can vary the LED intensity for range of dimming applications. The constant LED current architecture ensures uniform illumination, thus allowing for good color consistency. When the input voltage decreases to the over-voltage lock-out range, the IC will automatically shut down and not allow any current through the LEDs, thus preventing damage to the apparatus.
In addition, the device contains protection functions to guard against short circuit conditions, overheating, and over-voltage protection. It is designed within a small AEC-Q100 compliant 3 mm x 3 mm, 14-pin wettable flat package.
