In portable and battery-powered products, a battery charger plays a key role in providing the safe and efficient power to charge the battery and for operating the system The MAX8903AETI+ is an integrated battery charger and system power manager with a wide range of features, such as fast charging capability, wide input voltage range, ultra-low power operation, battery temperature monitoring, system power-on/off control, smart charge termination, battery fuel gauge, system current/voltage monitoring, and power management control. MAX8903AETI+ is a PMIC– Battery Chargers device. A PMIC– Battery Chargers allows the power to be efficiently delivered between the battery and system, while eliminating the need for multiple discrete external components and simplifying system design and implementation.The MAX8903AETI+ is designed to provide a maximum charge current up to 2.5A and a maximum system current of up to 2A. It can be used to charge single cell Li-Ion/Polymer and VL/NiMH cells. It also supports boost operation and delivers up to 5V at a maximum efficiency of 92%. The device has several protection features, such as input overvoltage protection, input overcurrent protection, battery overvoltage protection, battery overcurrent protection, thermal regulation, and reverse battery protection. The main features of the MAX8903AETI+ include the following: • Rapid charge: The MAX8903AETI+ enables rapid charging of the connected battery up to 2.5A.• Wide input voltage range: The device is designed to work with a wide input voltage range of 2.4V to 6.0V.• Low power mode operation: The device can operate at ultra-low power during idle mode.• Battery temperature monitoring: The device has an on-chip temperature sensor to monitor the temperature of the connected battery in order to detect thermal events and take necessary actions.• System Power On/Off control: The MAX8903AETI+ provides a power-on/off feature to enable/disable the system.• Smart charge termination: The device is designed with a smart charge termination feature to ensure that the charge process is safely completed.• Battery fuel gauge: The device is designed with a battery fuel gauge to monitor the battery state of charge and remaining capacity.• System current/voltage monitoring: The device has an on-chip voltage and current monitoring function to measure the system supply current/voltage. • Power management control: The device has an on-chip power management control logic to automatically adjust the system supply voltage and the system current in order to optimize system performance. The MAX8903AETI+ is also designed to provide power management for the system. The device includes several features to manage the system power. The device is capable of monitoring the system voltage on VFB pin, and adjust the input current, IN pin voltage or the output current OUT pin to maintain the system voltage within an acceptable range. It also provides the feature to control the system power-on/off and set the voltage level. The device also has an LED status control function to control an LED to indicate the charging status. In addition, the MAX8903AETI+ is also equipped with several protection features to ensure the safe operation of the device and to protect the connected system and battery. The device includes input overvoltage protection, input overcurrent protection, battery overvoltage protection, battery overcurrent protection, thermal regulation, and reverse battery protection.Overall, the MAX8903AETI+ is an ideal solution for portable equipment requiring fast charging, wide input and output voltage range, and system power management features.
