MBR3035PT, a rectifier diode array, is designed to be used as a freewheeling and polarity protection diode in a variety of different applications. It is a surface mount device with the copper lead frame and which can handle up to 35A continuous current. Housed in a D-Pak (PowerPAK SC-75) package, it comes with a single anode to two cathode configuration.

Application field

MBR3035PT is widely used in power supply, automotive applications, such as DC-DC converters, electric vehicle power systems, battery chargers, and consumer applications like solar inverters and other renewable energy micro-inverters. It is also suitable for DC motor drivers, AC/DC converters, high-voltage photovoltaic drivers and lightning suppressors.

Working Principle

The main function of the MBR3035PT is to protect against conduction using a low voltage drop reverse polarity protection. It uses a pair of SCRs housed in the same package to provide unmatched protection against overvoltage protection and inductive load switching protection. Connecting a pair of MBR3035PT devices in reverse parallel connection allows controlled turn-off of inductive loads without the bother of dissipating current in the external blocking diode.

MBR3035PT also works as an efficient freewheeling diode, exploiting its low forward voltage drop features. This helps in power dissipation reduction. MBR3035PT also supports high di/dt rate, allowing higher surge current applications.

Finally, MBR3035PT also works as a high speed reverse polarity protection diode as it provides a low impedance path to the transfer of leakage current caused by high speed ESD pulses. It also provides reverse polarity capability in high-current DC applications.
