Diodes – Rectifiers – Single

The MBR750 is an ultra-fast and ultra-soft recovery rectifier diode, specifically designed to minimize the total harmonic and transients at the same time. It is comprised of an epitaxial base and is rated to recover less than 100 ns after forward conduction. These single diodes offer low-forward voltage drop, while preventing current spikes, and provides clean steady output.

The MBR750 is ideal for ultrasonic imaging and other high-frequency applications, serving as an improved alternative to ultra-fast switching diodes. It is also suitable for topologies such as switching power supplies, power inverters, and rectifiers. These diodes feature a wide-operating temperature range, delivering higher power ratings.

Application Field

The MBR750 is the most preferred device for the application in power converters such as ac/dc and dc/dc converters. This diode can be used for switching power supplies and other applications that require a fast, soft recovery diode, such as motor-drive circuits and solar users. Its ultra-soft recovery action eliminates voltage transients in the converter and saves energy by preventing power dissipation.

Due to its fast switching speed and low forward voltage drop, this diode also serves as an excellent choice for use in mainscontrolled, frequency-controlled, and switched-mode power supplies. The dynamic performance of the diode makes it an ideal choice for resonant power supplies, allowing synchronous rectification to be implemented easily.

The MBR750 is a great choice for automotive applications due to its reverse voltage capabilities, allowing the diode to operate reliably. This particualr diode also offers higher breakdown voltage, making it suitable for power rectifiers in applications where more than one output is required. Working Principle

The MBR750 is designed to ensure efficient operation of power converters and to minimize the total harmonic distortion and transients. The primary mode of operation of this particular diode is forward conduction, where current flows in a single direction. It works by applying a positive voltage to the anode (A) of the diode and connecting the cathode (K) of the diode to ground. This causes the diode to conduct current, allowing it to act as a switch subject to current flow.

When the forward voltage is applied across the diode, its internally generated minority carriers are swept across the threshold voltage, producing a negative going pulse at the anode. This allows the reversed biased junction to be discharged quickly and effectively, with low-voltage clamping during reverse conduction occurring as a result. The MBR750 then returns to a steady state after current flow from the anode drops to zero.

In addition to forward conduction, the diode can also be used for reverse conduction, when a negative voltage is applied across the diode. As a result, the anode-to-cathode current can flow freely and the diode will be able to act as a rectifying element, allowing power to be supplied to a load.

The MBR750 is designed to reduce harmful harmonics and transients to a minimum. The diode’s short reverse recovery times make it ideal for switching applications and the diode helps minimize losses associated with conduction. By utilizing this diode, the user can be assured that the transformer and other components will be in a protected state.
