The MBRF30045 from Infineon Technologies is a dual ultrafast low-voltage avalanche rectifier in a package designed for high-performance rectification with low forward voltage drop and high forward current rating. This device belongs to the category of rectified diodes, which are ultra-fast body diodes specially designed to reduce the pre-reverse recovery losses of rectification and are used to decrease the amount of thermal dissipation when high power loads are switched. MBRF30045 is the marketplace\'s first 400 V avalanche rugged technology rectifiers offering all the features of an ultra-fast, ultra-rugged and low-dropout diode together with avalanche ruggedness in a miniature single in line 4-pin package, making it a viable choice for cost-sensitive power applications.

The two elements that jointly give the device its ultra-fast recovery process are the reverse-biased diode state and the forward-biased diode state – the state of a diode which is reversed with respect to its forward voltage drop. Reverse recovery times in the MBRF30045 can be as low as 9 ns, which is better than other rectifiers. With the significant improvement of the reverse recovery process, the device can achieve over 90% of power savings in microprocessor load conditions (which otherwise, with a slower recovery profile, would include a significant amount of energy dissipation).
Another key feature of the MBRF30045 is its high forward voltage drop. When compared with other rectifier, MM30045 has a much lower forward voltage drop when operating at higher currents, which leads to efficiency gains for power conversion, supply and motor drive applications.
